BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia recovers its pre-pandemic popularity with more than 9,000 people and 74% occupancy rate

Bilbao, 20 December 2022. The 15th edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia held from the 9th to the 18th of December, has reached the summit  with an overall attendance of 9,005 people. The festival screened a total of 59 films from 14 countries. There were 16 world premieres and 22 spanish premieres. 16 prizes were awarded among 13 winning films, with a total prize money of 25,200 euros. In addition, this year the ceremony in which the Grand Prize of the International Alliance for Mountain Film has been awarded to the Australian filmmaker Michael Dillon, has been held in Bilbao.

A Grand Prize that gives visibility to the lights and shadows of the history of Quinn Brett

The film "An Accidental Life" has won the Grand Prize of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia. Directed by Henna Taylor, the film revolves around the life of Quinn Brett, a climber who on October 11, 2017 suffered a traumatic accident while climbing in El Capitan, Yosemite. Amazingly she survived to be able to tell the story, but at the same time she had to face the irreparable consequences of the accident, leaving her paraplegic. Both, Henna Taylor and Quinn Brett, have been in Bilbao these past days, presenting the film, and in addition to the verdict of the Jury, they have received the warmth and recognition of the spectators of the Mendi Film.

Michael Dillon and the importance of living the adventure

Michael Dillon received on December 16, 2022, in Bilbao, the Grand Prize 2022 of the International Alliance for Mountain Film. The Australian filmmaker was accompanied on stage by Piotr Turkot (Krakow Mountain Festival, Poland) and Jabier Baraiazarra (BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, and president of the alliance). And after a standing ovation from the audience at the Sala BBK, he was grateful through an emotional dedication:
