The director focuses on the decline of the career of the great master, provoking his reflection on his future life, when he will no longer be able to climb mountains. It’s a moving story about inability to come to terms with old age and about desire of immortality.

The documentary goes over the beginnings of Himalayism in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the ascent by Thomas Hornbein, and incursions by Basque alpinists into this wall. After a biographical sketch of Alberto Zerain, it brings up the strategy followed by the expedition, carried out alongside his climbing partner Juan Carlos Arrieta.

Then in their late 20’s, Doug Tompkins went on to found North Face and Espirit, and to use his wealth to parchase huge tracks of Patagonia and tum them into national Parks; Ivon Chouinard, inspired by his youthful adventure, named his clothing company Patagonia, and later in his life joined Doug in the effort to Project the wildlands of this wild place at the tip of South America. 40 years later, in 2008, four young adventurers also in their 20’ and early 30’- also surfers and climbers, set our on a sailboat for their own adventure in the same region.

This film follows a team of four mountaineers, Nicolas and Olivier Favresse, Ben Ditto, Sean Villanueva, and one Scottish Reverend Captain, Bob Shepton on a climbing-sailing expedition to the west coast of Greenland. In spite of the difficulty of the climb, there’s no lack of laughs, jokes and music in the strangest places. This expedition won the Piolet d’Or for its style, its high technical quality and for the great camaraderie within the group.
