Second session: 18:30
CONFERENCE: GERLINDE KALTENBRUNNER/ RALF DUJMOVITS The Austrian himalayist doesn’t need to ask herself why she climbs mountains. Her ascents speak for her: in her case, style has always been more important than destination; the means rather than the end; ethics before the peak photo. With an unusual strength, Kaltenbrunner clocked up, in 2011, the K2 peak, without the help of artificial oxygen, a maxim to achieving the 14 highest peaks on the planet. Her husband, Ralf Dujmovits joined the list in 2009: both climb in a roped team, in accordance with the classical style, without rushing and ignoring ‘races’ and virtual podiums. Although never having been first ‘past the post’, nobody denies Gerlinde her status. ![]()
CONFERENCE: "Rock and Ice" - INES PAPERT The ‘queen’ of competition ice climbing wasn’t hiding anything other than an alpinist with an unequalled technique, fearlessness and aptitude. Sometimes, even in alpinism two plus two equals four: to a physical strength doubled by a unique skill with tools, Papert added the authentic desire to discover new grounds of expression…in the mountains. Routes of mixed extremes in Ben Nevis, openings from the ground in mixed or in ice, high technical ascents and, why not, front line rock routes light up a life without rear squad numbers of this German climber. ![]()
