Mountain activity gets into the Metro Bilbao with the CVCEPHOTO exhibition

The 20 winning photographs of the CVCEPHOTO international mountain photography contest are on display at Metro Bilbao until 18 December. Prestigious photographers from all over the world have participated in the contest of the Club Vasco de Camoing Elkartea of San Sebastian, including the Slovenian Sandi Bertoncelj with his photograph "Ski is life" (this year's image of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia) and the Basque Yhabril Moro with his photograph "Young Gun" (first prize CVCEPHOTO 2022).

The European Tour of KAZUYA HIRAIDE starts on November 22 in Bilbao

This November Kazuya Hiraide, mountaineer with three Piolet d'Or, will visit different European cities to tell his experience in the mountains. It will premiere on November 22 in Bilbao, as a prelude to BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia 2022, at the Euskalduna Palace. The mountaineer will approach his sports career since 2002, emphasizing the expeditions that have earned him the three Piolet d'Or, and, above all, valuing the failures that have occurred in that path that have led him to achieve these achievements.

Eduardo Martínez de Pisón will be the WOP Mendi Film awarded at the 15th edition of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia

The WOP-The Walk On Project Foundation and Mendi Film Festival Elkartea are awarding the WOP Mendi Film 2022 Foundation Award to Dr Eduardo Martínez de Pisón, geographer, writer and mountaineer from Valladolid. The award will be presented during the 15th edition of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, in December 2022 (from the 9th to the 18th).

Mendi Film Festival: a 15 years expedition

It has been 15 years since the creation of Mendi Mountain Film Festival in 2008. 15 years, and that is many editions without a break, with the one to be held from the 9th to the 18th  of December 2022. The list of films in competition will be published in October, and from then on, the guests, directors, producers and athletes who will take part in December will be announced.

"Ski is Life" official image of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia 2022

"Ski is Life" is the main image of the 15th edition of the Mendi Film, the winning photograph of the Poster BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia award at the CVCEPHOTO contest.

A spectacular ski photograph taken in Zauchensee, Austria, by the Slovenian photographer Sandi Bertoncelj that has earned him the honor of repeating as an image of our festival as he also did in 2020 -with "Into the Light"-.

IAMF meeting reunites alliance members in Trento

The 28 members of the International Alliance for Mountain Film-IAMF have once again held a face-to-face assembly within the framework of the 70th Trento Film Festival. Celebrate, yes, in a special way because it has meant the long-awaited reunion after the forced pandemic parenthesis of festival members from all over the world. The 26 mountain film festivals that represent it together with the Museo della Montagna in Turin and the Mountain Film Archive, have strengthened their alliance in the face of the motivating challenges and projects they face.

Jabier Baraiazarra, director of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, is the current President of the IAMF.

The International Alliance for Mountain Film decided to award the Grand Prize 2022 to Michael Dillon

The International Alliance for Mountain Film is proud to announce that its 2022 Grand Prize has been awarded to Australian director Michael Dillon.

Instituted in 2000, throughout its trajectory the International Alliance for Mountain Film, which includes the most prestigious organisations in the sector among its members, has become the main reference point for those who produce, promote and conserve mountain films. Today we are 28 members: 26 festivals of mountain film, one mountain museum and one mountain film archive, which represent 20 countries from Europe, Asia, North and South America and Oceania.

BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia 2021 has congregated 7,500 spectators despite of the pandemic and weather alerts

The 14th edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, held from December 3rd to the 12th, has reached it’s with an overall attendance of 7,541 people. The festival screened a total of 52 films from 13 countries. There were 11 international premieres and 22 national premieres, 11 panel talks and 7 exhibitions.

‘Sciana Cieni (The Wall of Shadows)’ wins the Grand Prize of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia

'Sciana Ceni (The Wall of Shadows)' the film directed by Polish filmmaker Eliza Kubarska takes the viewer to the Jannu or Kumbhakarna (Himalaya, 7710m) against the backdrop of an epic activity carried out by Russian mountaineers Dmitry Golovchenko and Sergey Nilov in spring 2019. But in the film, the real protagonist is the Sherpa family who work for the expedition: their concerns and fears about the sacred mountain, the conditioning weight of the salary for the services rendered, the parental yearning to be able to offer studies to their son, and the tense situation generated the situation of the climbers who are tragically delayed in their challenge.
