 oman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. It is unfortunate\, but not une
 xpected\, that the celebrations were confined to Asia. However\, her story
  is undoubtedly one of the most inspiring in sport. Tabei transcended soci
 al norms and Japanese cultural traditions by adopting masculine and cultur
 ally different or westernised methods to lead high-altitude mountain exped
 itions for women only. Tabei helped establish the Joshi-Tohan Japanese Lad
 ies Climbing Club\, founded on the slogan: “Let’s go on an overseas ex
