Bilbao, 3th June 2025. The MENDI TOUR, the touring cycle of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia International Mountain Film Festival, continues to grow. In the first half of 2025, film sessions have been held in 32 towns and cities with mountain, adventure, extreme sports and nature films. The number of spectators has grown by 13% compared to last year at this point. In total, 11,000 spectators have gone to the cinemas this year to enjoy the MENDI TOUR.
Mountain cinema is in vogue. The BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia festival held in December 2024 increased its audience by 34% compared to the previous edition, and the trend continues in the MENDI TOUR 2025.
MENDI TOUR 2025 by territories:
· GIPUZKOA: 18 sessions spread over 10 venues (Arrasate, Ataun, Azkoitia, Azpeitia, Donostia-San Sebastián, Eibar, Eskoriatza, Hondarribia, Tolosa and Zarautz).
· BIZKAIA: 13 sessions in 9 venues (CD Bilbao, Santutxu and Begoña municipal centres, Getxo, Igorre, Leioa, Mallabia, Otxandio and Zaldibar).
· ÁLAVA: 7 sessions in 3 venues (Agurain, Amurrio and Vitoria-Gasteiz)
· NAVARRA: 11 sessions in 3 venues (Pamplona-Iruña, Irurtzun and Sangüesa)
· CANTABRIA: 1 venue (Camargo)
· ASTURIAS: 1 venue (Gijón)
· GALICIA: 4 sessions (Vigo)
· CASTILLA Y LEÓN: 7 sessions in 3 venues (León, Salamanca and Valladolid)
· VALENCIA: 1 venue (Canet d'en Berenguer)
· CATALONIA: 3 sessions (Vielha e Mijaran)
MENDI TOUR FILMS
The MENDI TOUR attracts and satisfies the spectator. It has a catalogue of 21 films premiered or screened at the Mendi Film last December.
The programmes are agreed with the local organisers on the basis of this catalogue. Thus, the list of the most watched films of the first half of the year is as follows:
· JAMIE: 20 screenings. Portrait of transsexual climber and mountaineer Jamie Logan.
· ALWAYS ALIVE: 18 screenings. Trail runner Hillary Gerardi, and her Mont Blanc record.
· OF A LIFETIME: 17 screenings. Xavier de le Rue, Victor de le Rue and Mila de le Rue, skiing in Antarctica.
· HAIZE LERROAK: 15 screenings. Janire Etxabe shows her passion for vertical dance.
· ANDREA, UNPAVED ROUTE: 15 screenings. A reflective climbing journey in Morocco by Nina Caprez and Jeremy Bernard with their daughter.
In addition, the following feature films also stand out:
· PELIGRO NO ASOMARSE: a film sponsored by the Mendi Film Beka grant showing the high-line activity of the Salto del Nervión.
· NUPTSE. The ascent of the southern face of the Nuptse by Hélias Millerioux, Frédéric Degoulet and Benjamin Guigonnet.
· THE LAST EXPEDITION: a film about the glorious and at the same time convulsive career of the mountaineer Wanda Rutkiewicz.
MENDI TOUR 2025 AUTUMN
The MENDI TOUR will be reactivated in September with the following events scheduled for Autumn, the prelude to the 18th edition of the BBK MENDI FILM BILBAO BIZKAIA in December.
